Designing for how you live
I’ve always loved creating room for people to exist. Creating a space where they feel they can be themselves. I find it fascinating to watch how people move through a space, and how making slight changes causes them move so differently - and how if done correctly, it can allow them to move in their most natural way.
Our homes are the only place we can truly, honestly, and nakedly be ourselves. It’s where we can strip away pretences and masks that we put on to face the world, and melt back into our own skin. Unshielded. Vulnerable. Authentic. Safe.
And my view is that that’s what home should allow us to feel. It should encourage us to just be.
When I came to design my own home, I didn’t find that the London interior designers aligned with this way of thinking. Quite the opposite. I felt rushed, and pressured, and as though choosing materials was suddenly a competition to choose something better than their other clients. I really didn’t feel like I could be myself.
So, 4 years later, I thought, well, why not see whether other people are dealing with this same struggle - and spend more time creating spaces for people to be themselves. So, here we are. I started 3 years ago now, and so far it’s been pretty good going! The way I’ve learnt to operate is to have a focused group of 2-5 clients at a time - and to really take our time enjoying the process. And the results have been pretty damn beautiful.
I intend to continue as I’ve begun - being human focused - and individual focused. One I understand you, I feel like the space pretty much creates itself. Because once I know you, I can understand how you respond to materiality, to colours, to the way the lights change throughout the day, to where you want the music to play the loudest, where you want it to be quietest. All the little things which make the big thing a success.
There are 4 design principles that guide the projects -
Design Principle 1: Make it personal
To get the most out of the life, the home really must be well considered. It’s the one place where you can truly strip away all pretence and be yourself. It’s where you come to rest, to think, to make memories, to sleep. It’s a precious space - and one which really shouldn’t be underestimated in how it effects our lives.
We’ve always found that the best homes have been designed around the real people living there. This takes some brutal honesty around who you are and how you live your life, but the results of being vulnerable in this creative process are so worth while.
Your space really should be a reflection of you - the real you - so you’ll have to excuse if we make it part of our process if we ask some nosy questions as we curate your space.
Design Principle 2: Create a space that treats you right
Besides being beautiful, which is of course essential, I prioritise creating spaces which centre health and fun. Critically using natural materials, natural scents, and building in air and water purification where possible.
It seems obvious - but it’s not the way interior design today is generally approached.
Design Principle 3: This should be fun & easy
Interior design shouldn’t be complicated. It should be personal and comfortable and easy.
That’s what we’re here to do.
Design Principle 4: Sustainability
Sustainability sits at the heart and soul of every design move we make - every item and every company is meticulously considered to ensure that we’re building in a way that’s as consistent with sustained life on our planet as possible.
